Railtown Brewing Company: Reviews & Ratings
An excellent brewery way out in Dutton, MI. The atmosphere is a mix of a rowdy downstairs brewpub feel while upstairs it’s more restaurant style geared towards families. The beer is stellar. Hands down some of the best saison and wheat beers we’ve had this far north. Full body flavor, excellent balance, perfect pours. Now the food is good, but could have been better. Don’t get me wrong, these burgers were well put together and held up like a champ. Large slabs of bacon and healthy amounts of beef, the meat was just a tad bland. The turkey club sammich was a 10/10. Was not expecting a burger looking sandwich but it turned out excellent. Thick portions of turkey and fat slices of tomatoes. I recommend going for the spicy option when you get a burger.
I’ve been to Railtown a few times over the years, but it’s always been a pleasant brewery. I got a flight this last time to try a range of their brews, and I didn’t find any that were poorly brewed or unpleasant. They were quite good, and I especially enjoyed Yammit All! It was the perfect beer for fall, even if it was winter. The food looked great, but I didn’t try anything this time. It’s a good brewery though, and it’s worth a visit if you enjoy craft beer.
I was traveling through Grand Rapids and wanted to stop in to see how their beer was. I chose to get a flight to sample a variety of beers. Each one was really good in its own way. I really liked how they gave you their coaster with the choices you picked. I got the baja chicken bowl but it wasn't as good as I hoped. I wouldn't get it again but it was a very good place to try. There were a lot of big groups when we were there, but the server was amazing and attentive to us. You can sit inside or outside on their patio!
Absolutely delicious and fresh food! They have a very large selection of unique burgers, sandwiches and entrees. We had a Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, a Goat-Getter Burger. Great service and beer selection! Highly recommend this place
This was an absolute banger of a restaurant! We got the French onion soup and it came with freshly made soft pretzels to dip. I wouldn't have expected the two to pair so well, but it was incredible. We finished the pretzels so quickly we didn't even get a picture. The burgers were also top tier, especially when "making them flaming," which meant adding pickled jalapenos and chipotle aioli. The fries were the perfect texture and had great seasoning too. The beers we tried were also very unique in the best way. Overall a great experience and I will be back!
First time here, the wait was worth it. Service was excellent and friendly. They have outdoor seating as well, a lot of souvenirs you can buy. The menu had a lot of options and everything looked good. We got the dip flight (great for four people or more) we didn’t finish it. I got western BQQ burger w/ truffle fries and she got Texas Fried Rice. Highly recommend going back, no complaints on my end.
Flavorful! Great burger and fries. - Death by Cheeseburger - $17: Super-deluxe smashburger with cheese poured over top of the bun. This thing is flavor explosive! (Yes, I deviated from just getting a normal burger.) The smashburger was slightly thicker, but thin enough to get that classic smash flavor. It was a bit juicier and cooked right. I tried some just as the burger and it was good. The toppings are what really give the burger the flavor explosion. Everything there is full of savory goodness. Cheese is king! There is cheddar on the inside (not as prominent), fried garlic cheese curds, and an obscene amount of melted beer cheese on the top of the bun (thus the look) that dripped all over. The waitress gave me extra napkins for a reason. You don’t eat it handheld (unless you are crazy). Though there was so much cheese, it was not overdone. I don’t like extra cheese and this was spot on good for me. The fried onions were a very prominent presence and the crunchy texture was great. The Mac Sauce was bold and good. The bacon was medium thick and just the right amount. The Nantucket bun kind of got lost, which is a shame since I love their burger buns. Everything was mainly in balance, though. I asked “to make it flaming,” but on the side. I ate the first half without and the second half with. The spice was medium hot and FULL of flavor. I really liked the chipotle aioli as it was very creamy and a bold and savory flavor (not just painful heat). It was normally $0.50 overall, but I was charged $0.50 for jalapenos with ground chipotle pepper and $0.50 for the chipotle aioli. The bill came to $19.07 after tax. - Hazelnut Brownie - $7.50: My friend had the brownie and ice cream ($1.50 extra) and said it was very good and a very generous portion. The ice cream really complimented. They also have a Monday special where all their burgers are $5 off all day. I might have to go back for a regular burger (since that is my standard practice). - Fries (comes with the burger): The fries were amazing! Perfectly salted, cooked just right, fairly warm throughout, fluffy interior. The color in the picture is a bit deceiving as they look darker or like sweet potato fries, but these are standard fries and perfectly cooked. - Service: Chipper and very helpful. She took great care to keep our waters full. The meal was delivered fairly quickly after ordering it. When we arrived, the waitress had us wait to make sure of something (unspecified to us) and it took 3-5 minutes to actually get seated (it was not busy). After that, things were smooth, though. - Atmosphere: Inside was very clean and organized. We sat outdoors with wire patio tables and chairs. It was a great day for it and there was a noisy table inside watching sports. There were a couple of brave birds hanging close by. - Conclusion: I would highly recommend their food. FULL of flavor and done well. Visited on a Wednesday at 6pm. - Dietary restrictions: They have gluten-free options, but not much beyond the standard restaurant (salad, shrimp, rice bowl). They didn’t have a gluten-free bun listed, but I didn’t ask either. Looks like they had a black bean burger, though.
My mother and I stopped here for dinner one day because it was on our list of places to try and we definitely didn't regret it. We generally like to order a couple appetizers and split them, which is what we chose to do here and we could not believe the amount of food that they brought to the bar. Tina, the lama Dilla was the biggest quesadilla I think I have ever seen and it was so delicious, especially with the avocado and the chipotle aïoli. We also ordered the dip flight thinking it would just be a small appetizer and it literally could've been a whole meal. Four different amazing dips, along with fresh tortilla chips and the most wonderful warm breaded pretzel braid that was to die for. We cannot wait to go back and try some of the other offerings on the menu.
